Ceremony & Reception: Barrett Lane Swan Valley, WA
“I find Vintage inspired wedding so charming. It suited the atmosphere I wanted to create perfectly. Vintage Rustic with hints of Whimsical.”
The Proposal
I had to wait a little longer than most to meet the man of my dreams (I was 44 when we married), however Mathew was certainly worth the wait! After living together for a number of years Mathew proposed at home when I least expected it. I initially thought he was stretching when he first got down on his knee and I had to ask him to do it again once I realised what he was doing. It was very Mathew and romantic in our home we had bought together.
The Venue
I always knew I wanted a garden type setting for my wedding. Plenty of greenery, flowers and sunshine. We looked at many wineries in the Swan Valley and was recommended Barrett Lane by Sarah from Heart Strings and Pretty Things. When we viewed the venue we immediately knew this was the one. It had a beautiful intimate feeling to it that was just perfect for our wedding of 68 people.
We loved that we could have both the ceremony, reception and photos all at the one venue. We loved the rustic vintage atmosphere; as it matched our wedding theme perfectly. We were also able to come in the day before and set up and style the reception. I really wanted to do this part myself and as Barrett Lane was a hire venue we had much more access to decorate than we would have had at most other venues. The venue was just perfect for us and our guests loved it.
The Theme
I loved the idea of a Vintage/Rustic styled wedding. The whimsical feel of this style suited me perfectly. I loved sourcing vintage items from markets and online. I especially loved that it truly represented our style. I love animals and cats in particular and I was able to include them with adding little vintage porcelain figurines to my table decorations. Even my Cats Shiloh and Jax were represented with figurines that looked like them on our Bridal Table. I also used vintage books on our table displays as I am an English Literature Teacher and love reading. I find Vintage inspired wedding so charming. It suited the atmosphere I wanted to create perfectly. Vintage Rustic with hints of Whimsical.
Favourite details
Everything!! I really loved my cute little vintage photo booth set up.
DIY projects
I really enjoyed making the lolly bags, name tags, some lace covered jars and the menus. I thought my little menus were so cute!
Memories of the day
The entire day once we arrived at the ceremony was a dream come true. The day truly was so special to both of us. Having all our family and friends there to celebrate with us really was special and meant the world to us. We had a few hiccups while we were getting ready: the air conditioning wasn’t working , it was 39 degrees that day, so getting ready was a challenge. Our front door lock broke as we were leaving and I had to just tie the door handles with my dressing gown cord so we could go, we did end up being half an hour late. Then the gorgeous Kombi Van I had hired didn’t have air conditioning!! Once we arrived at the ceremony, I felt an amazing cool breeze as we stepped out of the car and the day was just perfect from there. We had the time of our lives and really didn’t want the day/night to end.
Special vendor mentions
All our vendors were amazing. Sarah from Heart Strings and Pretty Things was so helpful and inspiring. The flowers were gorgeous and withstood the 39 degree weather that day, everyone complimented the food from Showcase Catering. The food really was delicious and the servings were very large and our photographer Carla Atley who did a great job at capturing the day.
