14 November 2015 | St Joseph’s Church Subiaco & The Boatshed Restaurant South Perth
“My absolute favourite moment would have to be when we both were able to relax in the limo as we drove around the city getting our bridal photos. We had such a great time with our bridal party and it was the first time we were able to just talk! “
The Venue
This was a pretty easy one for us. Firstly we love water so it had to be on the beach or on the river… simple! We went and visited a few which were all pretty good, and then we met with Graeme at The Boatshed Restaurant and knew this place was like none of the others! It gave off the most professional, organised, personalised, caring vibe coupled with one of the best views in Perth and we were really left with no other options! This was then confirmed when we were told we didn’t need to arrange a single thing at the venue and that it would all be taken care of! We were sold!
Favourite Memory of the Day
This is a hard one as each memory is mixed with plenty of different emotions and I am sure these moments were all very different for Derek and me. As the bride, the anticipation of waking up in the morning and knowing all your months/years of meticulous planning were all coming together (perfectly and potentially not so perfectly!) on this one day was very overwhelming. I was overwhelmed by the thought of walking down the aisle in front of all of our closest family and friends and I was even more overwhelmed by the thought that our special day was finally here! I was excited, nervous, still worried about everything falling together just how I wanted and I seriously could not wait to get this show on the road! My absolute favourite moment would have to be when we both were able to relax in the limo as we drove around the city getting our bridal photos. We had such a great time with our bridal party and it was the first time we were able to just talk! Second to that was the moment we walked into the Reception together as husband and wife…. That feeling really cannot be beaten!
One Hot Day!
Here’s a funny story… Our wedding day was the ONLY 40 degree day in November! … As much as I can laugh now, it was damn hot! We all got through it and it didn’t change a thing, but seriously?! A swift reminder that the only thing you can’t control on your wedding day is the weather!
Advice for other couples
The biggest advice I can personally give is to just be prepared. Do all of the hard yards planning and confirming upfront to make sure everything runs just how you want it on the day. I put together a timeline for the day and gave it to every person who was involved in any way so that everyone knew what and when. I wrote out and emailed to all family and friends involved a matrix of responsibilities so that there was no confusion as to what they were meant to be doing and when. I really do believe this helped in our day being so perfect and stress free. Additionally, you really can’t go wrong with amazing vendors. By choosing your vendors wisely you are guaranteeing the quality of service on the day and lowering the risk of anything going wrong. I made sure I confirmed with all vendors exactly what I expected from them in the couple of weeks leading up to the day and they all delivered just as I had hoped for.
My final advice is for the bride! I seriously wish I had taken something to get changed into in the late hours of our reception. I had only ever spent a maximum of 10 minutes in my wedding dress at a time before the day and therefore had absolutely no idea how comfortable it would be 12hrs later. I was in crazy agony and it did put a tiny damper on the last couple of hours. If only I had something quick and simple to change into after all the formalities were done and dusted and I could have comfortably ate, drank and danced the night away!
Outstanding Vendors
Melissa’s Photography – Firstly, Mel produced the most amazing photos from our day and we could not be any happier. But additionally, Mel was the most calming and organised presence on our day. Mel was on time, did not let a single thing slip, and worked tirelessly in the heat. An absolute pleasure to deal with before the day, on the day and now after the day!
The Boatshed Restaurant – Claire delivered the perfect reception for us and it was better than anything I could have thought up myself! Claire is so organised, particular, caring, and understanding and really confirmed exactly why we chose this beautiful venue for our wedding reception!
