Purse
Scavenger Hunt
Divide the guests into teams of two or three. Provide each
team a list of items to be found in their purses. Each item
is assigned a certain number of points. The most likely found
item such as lipstick is assigned 20 points. Whereas an item
such as a rock is assigned 75 points. Can you believe at my
bridal shower that one of my co-workers actually had a rock
in her purse? It was her lucky rock and needless to say, her
team won!
Don't Cross Your
Legs
Each woman is given a clothespin to clip to the end of her
skirt/dress. The purpose of the game is to NOT get caught
crossing your legs at any time throughout the bridal shower.
If one of the other guests catch you crossing your legs then
she can grab your clothespin. The guest who collects the most
clothespins, wins the game. You will be surprised at how natural
it is for women to cross their legs so this will be a fun
game to play as the bridal shower progresses.
A Wedding Word
Scramble
Choose 10 - 15 words such as: Church, wedding dress, garter,
rings, flowers etc., and scramble them up. Example: 1) ruchch
= church 2) dingdwe sreds - Wedding dress. Give your guests
about 10 minutes to figure out the words. The guest with the
most words spelled correctly wins.
The Bride Leaves
the Room
Ask the bride to leave the room. The guests are asked to write
down ten or fifteen things about the bride such as what color
is her hair and what are the colors of her eyes. Also, what
color of clothing is she wearing, what kind of jewelry is
she wearing or any other accessories. The guest with the most
correct answers wins a prize.
Box of Recipes
When my sister got married a few years ago, my aunt gave her
a wedding shower. When she mailed the invitations, she included
a card for each guest to write their favorite recipe on. Then
at the shower, my aunt put all the cards in a recipe box and
gave it to my sister as a gift from everyone.
Bingo!
The best game we ever played was Bridal Shower Bingo. You
make a blank grid to look like a bingo card. As the guests
arrive, have them fill out the grid with gifts that they think
the bride will receive. (As in the real game, Bingo, the free
space is in the middle. You can write in the name of your
own gift.) As the bride opens a gift, cross it off your bingo
card. If you have five in a row, across or diagonally, it's
Bingo! Give a prize to the first winner!
Memory
At my first shower, my aunt and cousin played a game for both
my sister and I (we were also having a baby shower for her),
but it is great for just a bridal shower. My cousin came out
in a robe with a variety of things attached to the robe, i.e.
napkin holders, place mats, hot pads, tongs... We had 1 1/2
minutes to look at what she was wearing, and then she left
the room. We then all had to try to remember what she had
on and write it down. Whoever had the most correct answers
won a small prize, and all of the items she was wearing went
to the bride as part of her gift.
How Well Do You
Know the Bride?
Give each guest a note pad-size paper and pen. Have questions
ready to ask such as, how old is the bride, her mother's name,
what college/university/high school did she attend, her favorite
soft drink, the names of her brothers/sisters, her wedding
date, the colors of her wedding, her fiance parents names,
what size shoe, her favorite color, favorite TV show/soap,
etc. The guest that answers the most correct wins a prize.
You will be amazed what people do or do not know. It will
start great conversations.
Roll the Orange
You need a pair of pantyhose and 2 oranges. Put one orange
on the floor and the other in one leg of the pantyhose. Tie
the other leg (of the pantyhose) around your waist. The object
is for you to swing your hips and hit the orange (that you
placed on the floor) across a designated area in the best
time. You could also have 2 teams and have a relay.
Commercial Jingles
Get about 10 commercial jingles before the party. Have each
person write down their answers on a piece of paper. The one
with the most correct jingles wins. Some examples: "Bleach
for the unbleachables (Javex)" and "The Real thing
(Coke)."
Questions for
the Bride
This shower game can be used for a bridal or couple's shower.
If it is for a bridal shower then the maid-of-honor should
call the Groom before the shower and ask him all sorts of
questions about the bride. Questions like "What was her
very first pet?", "Who was her first kiss?",
and "What high school did she go to?" At the shower
everyone has an opportunity, including the bride to answer
the questions. Whoever gets the most questions correct wins.
It's fun to also read the answers the Groom gave and see how
close they were.
Who Am I?
Each guest is sent a 3x5 card with their invitation. The guest
is to type out a memory they have with the bride. They do
NOT include their name. Then, at the shower the bride reads
the cards and has to guess who wrote down that memory. It
is a great game because it gives the bride a stack of memories
and also allows "strangers" at the shower to get
to know how others know the bride.
What's in a Name?
I had pre printed sheets of paper that had the Groom's name
and the bride's name at the top. Guests were given four minutes
to make as many words as possible using the letters from both
names. Words had to be at least four letters long and no proper
nouns. The two people with the most words each got to pick
a prize.
How Well Does
the Bride Know the Groom?
My shower was last weekend. Aside from the Bingo Game (which
everyone loved), my future sister-in-law had me sit in front
of the room (after I opened my gifts, while the guests were
eating cake). She asked me questions about how well I knew
my fiance. She had asked him the same questions the night
before. If my answer matched his, I got a prize and if the
answer did not match, she picked a guest's name out of a hat
and they got the prize. It turned out to be pretty funny.
The questions can vary, but here's what she used, just to
give you an idea: What is his favorite color? Favorite restaurant?
Favorite meal? Favorite band? Favorite song?
Where did you go on your first date? What is his middle name?
His confirmation name? Favorite movie? You'd be surprised
at how many I got wrong after being with this man for 6 years!
For gifts, she wrapped lots of little things: potpourri, scented
candles, etc.
Word Games
One fun game is to have each guest think about the household
chore that they hate doing the most. Then, they write down
on a piece of paper three reasons why they hate that particular
chore (e.g. if the chore is dishes, they might writesomething
like "because of all the crusty stuff you have to pick
off."). Then, you pass the papers around until everyone
has someone else's paper. Take turns reading the reasons out
loud, but replace "I hate doing dishes" with "I
hate sex because..." Its really funny what some people
put!
Introductions
In each bridal shower invitation, ask each guest to bring
a non perishable grocery item of which its first letter begins
with the initial of their first name. Inform each guest not
to wrap the item. Some examples: Teresa - tomato soup, Susan
- sugar, Mary - Macaroni, etc. At the beginning of the shower,
have each guest introduce herself as she presents her grocery
item to the bride. This not only is a great way to introduce
the guests to one another, it helps the bride and groom stock
their pantry. Another version is to have each person bring
their favorite recipe for the bride and bring one item listed
in the recipe.
Price is Right
Before the shower, the bride-to-be purchases about 5-10 household
items (ie. cleaning products, coffee, toilet paper & so
on). At the shower, for each item three contestants are called
and each is given a chance to guess the price of the item.
The guest who guesses the closest to the true price of the
item without going over is given a prize. A lot of people
enjoyed this one.
Shower Cap
This is literally a shower game. The rules are simple: if
you say the bride's name you have to wear a shower cap. The
next person to say her name has to wear the lovely shower
cap! It makes a fun picture. |
